Christina asked: I had a rough time a few years ago, and stopped paying my credit cards and cell phone to be able to keep paying the rent and then i lost my job, it was all sent to debt collectors. I’m ready to get this taken care of so I can rebuild my credit somehow, but I don’t know which companies hold the debts. How do I find out? I haven’t heard from any of them in almost a year.

jimmyaven asked: I have two credit cards that I have used over 5 years ago and never paid back. The total of the two cards FIVE YEARS AGO was $1000. Of course, by now, it should be close to $3000 because of all the interests.
What does debt consolidation do? More importantly, can it REALLY remove or reduce the interest that built up over the last 5 years?
When doing a search for debt consolidation services, I get THOUSANDS of results. Which debt consolidation services are better?
Detailed answers would be appreciated.
Update: Am I correct to assume that if I leave the debt as it is, I can have it completely wiped off my credit card two years from now as if it never happened?

mrbearpro asked: I would like to get a debt consolidation loan for my outstanding debt from closed credit cards, old utility bills, etc
I have student loans, but I would like to consolidate them separatley and not through another loan.
Also, I have an auto loan, would the loan be able to cover that as well?
Please, real answers, and no opinions/judgements.
Thank You.

The Oracle asked: I am in my final six months of university. I have incurred debts of over £5000 on credit cards just to survive my training to be a nurse. I will have a good wage in a few months but I find now I am just paying the intrest. I also have two loans also to help me through studying but they are nearly paid off now only another year on them. I would appreciate your advice on my credit card debt as intrest alone is now £120 a month without touching the balance and I still have to manage on £550 bursary per month. I cant work as my placement is 40 hours plus uni time.

patti_jim_reynolds asked: My husband and I are WAY in debt and I have been trying to talk him into doing debt consolidation cause at the rate we are going, we won’t be able to buy a house until our kids are all out of the house!! The thing is, he doesn’t believe they actually help all that much and that we would be better off paying it off ourselves. Is it true that they can work with credit card companies to reduce or even remove APR from the debt amount and can give you an estimate of when you can be debt free? We have four credit cards that equal about $25,000 and we’ve got to the point where we are making payments just so we can get food and gas. Any debt consolidation advice is greatly appreciated!

GeminiStars asked: Is the Statute of Limitations on credit card debt, determined by the state you currently live in or where the debt originated?
I have a debt that I stopped paying on in Jan 2002. I acquired the debt while living in Texas and stopped paying it while living in Texas. My husband is military so we have lived in Missouri for the past 4 years.
The SOL for TX is 4 years for open accounts (credit cards) and for MO it is 5 years. Either way, the SOL has run out on this debt, however I am still wondering which would apply to us since we are military? We claim TX as our home/residence.
Thanks!
This debt was sold to a debt collector years ago.
I have known others that have written cease and desist letters so I am not so sure that SOL on card debt is a “myth”.

tevesay7 asked: I am 21 years old and in $15k of credit card debt. I make just about $14k a year. I made a lot of stupid decisions when i first got my credit cards. I am living at home and unable to to move out, or do anything at all for that matter. I don’t spend any money and I put all my money towards bills though a credit counselor. Would I be able to declare bankruptcy?
